Elshani: Competent authorities decided that the new bridge over the Ibar be opened for traffic today

Deputy Commander of the Kosovo Police for the northern region, Veton Elshani, told Kosovo Online that the competent authorities decided this morning to open the bridge for traffic. It is intended for the passage of cars and other vehicles, but it was opened earlier than expected, even though technical tests had been announced for later in the day.

“This morning, the competent institutions made the decision to open this bridge for traffic. The police were here, and the Special Units were also present. The procedure was such that, until the bridge was opened for traffic, the police had to check from their side that there were no issues and that everything was in order. That process has been completed. From now on, if any problems arise, that falls under the responsibility of the police. The construction of the bridge has been completed, and it is now open for traffic, that is what matters,” Elshani said.

When asked why the bridge was opened earlier than announced, despite the expectation of technical testing during the day, Elshani replied that he was not authorized to answer that question, since the responsible institutions had made the decision to open the road.

“As for other technical matters, I am not authorized and I know nothing about them,” he stated briefly.

Regarding the opening of the second – pedestrian bridge over the Ibar, Elshani emphasized that it will be opened once construction is completed and everything is ready for use.

“It will be opened once all the work is finished, along with the necessary procedures. What is important is that the police will remain here at the new bridge during the day, since today it will serve as something like a tourist attraction, but at some point, the police will withdraw,” Elshani stated.
