Escobar on the ban of the dinar: Unilateral moves will have consequences

Special Envoy of the United States for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, stated today that the United States had been completely clear that unilateral moves could not be made, and such moves would have consequences, RTV reports.

Regarding Pristina's decision to postpone the implementation of the CBK regulation banning the dinar in Kosovo, he emphasized to Tanjug that these issues should be communicated with deadlines that did not affect the population.

"We are ready to help resolve the issues, but Belgrade and Pristina must return to dialogue and respect existing agreements," Escobar said.

According to him, many of these issues could be resolved by establishing the Community of Serb-majority Municipalities.

When asked whether the address for assistance to the Serbs in Kosovo was in Brussels or Washington, he emphasizes that the United States fully supports the dialogue under the auspices of the EU and makes every effort to continue it, as dialogue is the only channel for resolving "bilateral issues".

"Our technical support, our economic support, and our political influence are behind the dialogue. At the end of the day, our greatest aspiration is for both Kosovo and Serbia to join the European Union. And in the meantime, develop peaceful, productive, and efficient bilateral relations," Escobar said.

Escobar also commented on the Statehood Day of Serbia, expressing his desire to continue developing friendship between the two states.

"We have accomplished a lot over the past three years with Marko Djuric here, and we want to continue that. He has done a lot for Serbia, and we will miss him," Escobar said, who was a guest at the reception organized by the Embassy of Serbia in Washington to mark the Statehood Day.
