The European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX) has increased its readiness level in North Mitrovica, where the newly elected mayor, Erden Atic, took the oath today, EULEX stated for Kosovo Online, emphasizing that their forces are on standby 24 hours a day and prepared to react quickly.

"Considering the swearing-in ceremony, EULEX has increased its readiness level. The Mission’s Formed Police Unit and Reserve Formed Police Unit stand ready to support the Kosovo Police as a second security responder, if requested and if needed, in maintaining the stability of Kosovo and the security of all its communities," EULEX stated.

This was their response to our question about whether EULEX plans to increase its presence and the number of patrols in North Mitrovica and other municipalities in the north, on the occasion of the oath-taking of the mayor of North Mitrovica, scheduled for today, May 19th.

In their response, they emphasized that EULEX is closely following the developments in northern Kosovo through the presence of its Formed Police Unit and Reserve Formed Police Unit, as well as their Senior Police Advisors and other staff present in the area, in close coordination with the Kosovo Police and KFOR.

"In addition, a Quick Reaction Force is on standby 24 hours a day in Mitrovica with a very short response time," EULEX stated.
