The first round of the Strategic Dialogue between the Republic of Serbia and the United States was inaugurated today by Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Djuric and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, marking the beginning of a new chapter in bilateral relations and establishing an institutional framework for further strategic cooperation between the two countries, the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.

In his opening remarks, Minister Djuric described the launch of the Strategic Dialogue as a historic milestone in Serbian-American relations and a step that restores bilateral ties, after 145 years of diplomatic relations, to the level befitting two nations that were allies in both World Wars.

“History has brought us together, and the future calls on us to make that partnership even stronger. Today, we are not merely launching a new format of political dialogue—we are opening a new chapter in the relations between the Republic of Serbia and the United States,” the minister said.

Djuric expressed particular appreciation to Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the leadership of the U.S. Department of State for, as he noted, their vision and political resolve in recognizing Serbia not only as a strategic partner but also as a reliable ally.

He emphasized the particular significance of the fact that the inaugural round of the Strategic Dialogue is taking place during President Trump's Administration, at a time when Serbia and the United States share similar views on a number of key international issues, including the importance of state sovereignty, economic development, and energy security.

The minister underscored that the Strategic Dialogue will ensure regular, continuous, and structured communication at the highest level while providing a platform for deepening cooperation in the fields of foreign policy, security, energy, trade, investment, science, education, innovation, and advanced technologies.

He further noted that the very first round of the Strategic Dialogue has already produced tangible results, including the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Energy Infrastructure and Regional Energy Security, a Memorandum of Understanding on the Fulbright Academic Exchange Program, and the Republic of Serbia's accession to the Artemis Accords, thereby making Serbia part of the global initiative for the peaceful exploration of outer space and the development of cutting-edge technologies.

“The most successful partnerships are not built through a single meeting, but through trust, consistency, and the ability to achieve concrete results together. The Strategic Dialogue is a historic step toward strengthening our strategic partnership and constitutes a cornerstone of the contemporary bilateral relations between the Republic of Serbia and the United States,” Minister Djuric concluded.

In a post on the social media platform X, Djuric stressed that the launch of the Strategic Dialogue represents far more than a procedural step, describing it as a major advancement in relations between Serbia and the United States.

“The launch of the Strategic Dialogue is not merely a procedural step—it is a significant step forward in Serbia–U.S. relations, one that will enable continued cooperation between various ministries and state institutions on both sides, regardless of political changes in either country,” Djuric wrote on X.

He added that he expects this development to serve as a lasting foundation for even stronger cooperation, greater prosperity, and deeper mutual understanding between Serbia and the United States in the years ahead.
