Hill on the abolition of the dinar in Kosovo: Avoid such unnecessary surprises and unilateral actions

The US Ambassador to Serbia Christopher Hill stated in Sokobanja that the decision of the Central Bank in Pristina to abolish the dinar from payment transactions was an unnecessary surprise and that the United States and the European Union were closely monitoring and analyzing the situation's developments, RTS reports.

Christopher Hill said that, in this phase of the dialogue, such unilateral actions should be avoided.

"At this stage of the dialogue that we have reached and that Mr. Lajcak has achieved, unnecessary surprises and unilateral actions should be avoided. We believe that the most important thing now is the formation of the Community of Serb-majority Municipalities, but also to enable Kosovo's access to international institutions. The focus should be on that, avoiding topics that are not of common interest," Christopher Hill, the US Ambassador to Serbia said.

The Central Bank in Pristina announced that the euro would be the only currency allowed for cash payment transactions in the cash and payment system and that this measure would take effect on February 1 this year.

The Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Petar Petkovic, stated to RTS that the attempt to abolish payment transactions was one of Kurti's most challenging unilateral moves aimed at the exodus of the Serbs.
