Hill: The issue of Serbs in northern Kosovo must be resolved through the CSM

US Ambassador to Belgrade Christopher Hill stated that resolving technical issues in politics is not for those seeking quick solutions, emphasizing that Serbs in northern Kosovo must have the issue of the CSM resolved, as reported by Kossev.

In an interview with Nova S, Hill assessed the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina as a very difficult process and said that everyone understands that the situation is challenging; however, he also indicated that it is necessary to establish the Community of Serb Municipalities.

"There is an awareness among American policy-makers that Serbs in North Mitrovica and Kosovo must have the issue resolved through the Community of Serb Municipalities," Hill said.

He emphasizes that this issue is being addressed not only by Europe but also by the United States, and the ultimate result is the CSM.

"This is an issue that both Europeans and Americans are dealing with, and although there will not be progress at every meeting, in the end, we will have the Community of Serb Municipalities," Hill assessed.

He agrees with the opinion of the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, in his negative assessment of the recent elections in the north, which were held with the boycott of the majority of Serbs in these municipalities.

"I don't believe that these elections can have a positive long-term impact in the majority Serb municipalities, and it is important for me to focus on overcoming that and reaching the Community of Serb-majority Municipalities," Hill stated.

He states that interpersonal understanding and time are necessary for such a process to be realized.

"When you have technical issues in politics, it is not for those seeking quick solutions. Time is needed to resolve them. The differences are deep, and it is time for people to listen to each other better in order to find a solution," he emphasized.
