European Commission Spokesperson for Internal Affairs, Anitta Hipper, announced that the EU High Representative, Kaja Kallas, is expected to meet with the leaders of Serbia and Kosovo tomorrow.

Commenting on the incident at the Ibar-Lepenac canal, Hipper emphasized that those responsible must be brought to justice and expressed satisfaction that Kosovo authorities have initiated an investigation.

She stated that EULEX is monitoring the situation and that it will provide full support within its mandate.

“Regarding Kosovo, we issued a statement from the High Representative condemning the terrorist attacks and welcoming the fact that Kosovo authorities are now investigating this matter. The perpetrators must be brought to justice. As for EULEX, you are aware that since 2018, EULEX no longer has an executive mandate for conducting investigations, but EULEX is monitoring the situation, was present during searches, and is providing support. This is something EULEX and KFOR do within their mandates,” Hipper stated.

She announced that tomorrow, the EU High Representative will hold a meeting with the leaders of Kosovo and Serbia.

When asked whether the meeting is part of the formal dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, Hipper clarified that “the meeting is not part of the dialogue in the strict sense of the term.”

She stated that both Serbia and Kosovo should demonstrate a willingness to cooperate and contribute to clarifying the case.
