Janjic: Vucic should not go to Brussels if there is no talk on the CSM
Political analyst Dusan Janjic said today that EU High Representative for Foreign Policy Josep Borrell and EU Special Representative for Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue Miroslav Lajcak would have to inform the Serbian public about what they would discuss with Aleksandar Vucic and Albin Kurti on February 27 in Brussels, Beta reports.
Janjic told the Beta agency that the statement by the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, that there would be no talk of the Community of Serb-majority Municipalities (CSM) in Brussels "undermined" the negotiation process, as well as the statement by the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, in Munich, that another country had withdrawn its recognition of Kosovo's independence.
"Vucic should not go to Brussels if the Community of Serb-majority Municipalities is not one of the topics at that meeting. If he does go to Brussels, there should not be a meeting with Kurti without discussing the CSM," Janjic said.
According to him, in the next two or three days, the intervention of the "big five" countries would have to follow in order to define the agenda in Brussels.
"If the CSM is not discussed in Brussels, it will increase Russian influence in Serbia. Vucic will be declared a traitor because he said he would not go to Brussels unless Kurti 'delivers' the CSM. Kurti is impeding the dialogue by not accepting the CSM formation, and Vucic by lobbying for the derecognition of Kosovo's independence, which is against the principles of the European plan for solving the Kosovo issue," Janjic assessed.
Janjic adds that Vucic has three options after Kurti's statement that he would not discuss the CSM in Brussels.
"Vucic does not have the possibility that no one from the Serbian Government goes to Brussels. He can go to Brussels, and not see Kurti. This time, Vucic can rightfully demand that Borrell and Lajcak do their job. Borrell has previously said that everything is ready for the three-way meeting, which according to Kurti's statement is not true. They must explain to the public of Serbia what the trick is," Janjic emphasized.
He points out that the CSM can only be implemented if the Serbs first return to the Kosovo institutions.
"At the moment, there is a lack of information as to whether it is true what the director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija Petar Petkovic said that the management team created a second version of the CSM Statute. The main question is where that version is located and what it says. The key topic of the meeting in Brussels should be whether and what is being done regarding the CSM formation", Janjic said.
