Kos: Amendments to the Law on the Kosovo Specialist Chambers unacceptable to the EU
European Union (EU) Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos said that the amendments to the Law on the Kosovo Specialist Chambers are contrary to Kosovo's fundamental obligations toward the EU.
Kos stressed that this was “unacceptable.”
According to her, changing the rules while judicial proceedings are underway violates international standards of the rule of law.
“My message is very simple. The EU enlargement process is moving forward. If candidate countries take steps backward, they are not on the right path and will not be able to become EU members,” Kos said.
Kos also pointed out that four accession conferences with Montenegro, Albania, Ukraine and Moldova are on the horizon.
“Enlargement is on the move. Our frontrunners are delivering, and so are we,” Marta Kos wrote on the social network “X.”
The European Commissioner for Enlargement stressed that progress must go hand in hand with strategic alignment and respect for the rule of law.
“Our security depends on both,” Marta Kos said ahead of the start of the Foreign Affairs Council meeting.
