Kurti: Albanian patriots united around the idea of independence
Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti said tonight, at the commemoration of the 111th anniversary of Albania's independence organized by the country's embassy in Pristina, that November 28 was the "fundamental date" of freedom and flag, community and independence, state and victory.
"A lot of sacrifices and efforts were made, a lot of blood, tears and sweat were shed, so that we could celebrate, rejoice and progress," Kurti said.
According to him, on October 22, 111 years ago, the Serbian army entered Pristina, as part of "Serbia's invasion of Kosovo during the First Balkan War".
"Precisely at the peak of the criminal campaigns of the Serbian armies to Durres and Elbasan, Albanian patriots of different currents united around the idea of independence, which was proclaimed on November 28, 1912, in the Assembly, in Valona," said Kurti.
As he stated, the declaration of independence of Albania was a renaissance political project.
"History has a habit of repeating itself. The national goal of the Albanians follows the will of Ismail Qemali and Hasan Prishtina, after whom the cities where the two acts of independence were proclaimed are named. As then, so today, dangers are present. Compared to November 28 of the last century, geopolitics remained almost the same, but we are much more powerful. Let's first congratulate the 111th anniversary of our power," Kurti said.
He congratulated the 111th anniversary of the declaration of independence of Albania and the creation of the Albanian state, "for the freedom of citizens and the equality of peoples, our Balkan region and the European continent, for peace within and between countries, for permanent security for all and comprehensive progress".
