Kurti: The bridge on the Ibar must be open, there is no discussion on that topic
Kosovo's Prime Minister Albin Kurti stated today that the opening of the bridge on the Ibar River is a matter that was settled in 2016 and 2017 in Brussels, and that there is no further discussion on the topic because, as he says, it is now under the jurisdiction of Kosovo's institutions, Reporteri reports.
Kurti said that for the bridge to be opened, all that is left is to receive confirmation of its durability from the relevant ministry.
"The issue of the Ibar bridge is an issue for Kosovo, it was concluded as far as Brussels is concerned in 2016 and 2017, and the bridge must be opened. We want free movement of citizens and the rule of law, peace, and security. From our point of view, what we need to wait for is the report on the stability of the bridge. Once we see the report, we will assess how stable the bridge is," Kurti said while inspecting the work on the Prizren-Tetovo road.
According to him, the bridge on the Ibar was supposed to be opened in January 2017.
"This is not a matter of discussion, it's a matter of openness, and in 2016 all discussions were completed, and it was stated that the bridge should be opened on January 20, 2017. Now we are neither in January nor in 2017, but in August 2024," Kurti added.
