Kurti congratulated Trump, but had openly supported Kamala Harris

Kosovo’s Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, congratulated Donald Trump on his victory in the US presidential election, with a message that the United States is a key ally, friend, and partner of Kosovo.

On the “X” platform, Kurti expressed his enthusiasm for working together toward progress and peace.

“Congratulations, President Donald Trump, on your electoral victory. The US is a key ally, friend and partner to Kosova and we look forward to working together for progress and peace,” Kurti wrote.

To recall, prior to the US election, Kurti openly supported Kamala Harris. On May 23 of this year, at a gathering, he mentioned that "Kosovo becomes anxious even at the thought of a Trump victory."

At that time, Kurti noted that it was unlikely that the US’s long-term support for Kosovo would change, but “with President Trump’s return, there is a certain level of stress and anxiety across Europe, and Kosovo is no different.”

As reported by the portal Demokracia at the time, “it appeared that Kurti was visibly stressed by the possibility of Trump and the Republicans returning to the White House, as tensions in official relations began during the previous administration and continued throughout President Biden’s term.”

“During his term, Albin Kurti’s policies, which are not aligned with Kosovo’s allies, particularly the United States, have had irreparable consequences for the Republic of Kosovo and its consolidation on the international stage,” Demokracia observed.

Kurti also attended the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on August 19, where Kamala Harris accepted the Democratic Party’s nomination for the presidential election.
