The leader of the Self-Determination Movement, Albin Kurti, announced that Glauk Konjufca will be the party’s new candidate for prime minister, while he himself will assume the position of foreign minister, Reporteri writes.

This was confirmed today at the General Council of the Self-Determination Movement.

Kurti stated that the proposed list of ministers remains unchanged and that the only alteration is the exchange of positions between him and Konjufca.

“We are continuing with the same cabinet we proposed. I am taking Konjufca’s place, and he is taking mine. That is what we agreed on last night in the party leadership,” Kurti said.

Konjufca said he accepted the nomination for prime minister-designate in order to avoid another election and to ensure the adoption of the 2026 budget.

“I must accept the proposal from the General Council. I take it as a duty. Self-Determination has decided that, under the current circumstances, we must avoid elections and vote on the 2026 budget, without which vital aspects of our citizens’ lives would be jeopardized – more than 80,000 public sector salaries, pensions, child benefits, and essential social projects. It would be unforgivable if, due to the whims of political parties, we lost the opportunity to benefit from hundreds of millions in funding while boasting about going to elections. We still have two processes ahead, RTK employees are left without pay, and there is no extension for the budgets of three municipalities,” he said.

Konjufca praised caretaker Prime Minister Albin Kurti.

“I want and expect, as do the citizens of Kosovo, that Kurti will return even stronger than he was in 2021. There is no doubt he has been and will remain the best prime minister our country has ever had,” he said.

Konjufca added that it is now up to the political parties to decide whether to avoid snap elections or not.

“We are all under the scrutiny of the people, but it seems to me that the sword of judgment will be sharper than before,” Glauk Konjufca concluded.
