Kurti: We are giving a chance to the agreement for penalty-free license plates, but the final agreement cannot be left aside
We were giving a chance to an agreement without fines, but not only for license plates, and to leave aside the issue of negotiations on the final agreement, Prime Minister Albin Kurti said today, adding that Serbia "committed not to issue any more license plates from the Milosevic era", Koha reports.
"It is not enough to agree on license plates, although I agree that the second phase should be suspended in search of a solution for the full normalization of relations by March 2023. So we give a chance to an agreement without penalties, but not only for license plates, leaving aside the issue of negotiations on the final agreement. On the other hand, Serbia has committed itself not to issue license plates from the Milosevic era anymore," Kurti said.
He also said that it is necessary to correct the "mistake" of Josep Borrell, the High EU Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
"We are optimistic and I believe that it is necessary to correct Borrell's mistake. Now the US needs another 48 hours to turn yesterday's rapprochement into an agreement. They are doing their best. I don't think this is the best moment to talk about new delays. We are talking about maximum intensity so that within 48 hours we have an agreement as we aimed for in Brussels, without limiting ourselves to things like working on the license plates," Kurti said.
Kurti also said that he had not been in contact with the High EU Representative Josep Borrell since the previous day and repeated his criticism of Borrell, saying that he gave up on the Franco-German proposal seeking an agreement only on license plates, Reporters reports.
"The US, especially Ambassador Hovenier, is very dedicated and engaged, and I thank him for that. His role is always constructive, positive, and creative. Both the US and Hovenier are making maximum efforts. They are in contact with Brussels. "Since I finished the last meeting, I have not communicated with Borrell, who, I regret to repeat, abandoned the Franco-German proposal, and made a proposal on the license plates, and the agreement on the license plates is not enough," Kurti said.
