Macron: Normalization of relations between Serbia and Kosovo is a fundamental condition for European integration
French President Emmanuel Macron stated, after his meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, that the normalization of relations between Serbia and Kosovo is a fundamental condition for their European integration.
Macron shared on the social network "X" that he had a lengthy conversation with the Serbian President and that one of the topics discussed was the normalization of relations between Serbia and Kosovo, to which France is deeply committed.
He pointed out that he emphasized to Vucic how much importance France attaches to Serbia's democratic and European future.
"I expressed confidence in Serbia’s ability to find its way back to dialogue, and my hope that the future government will decisively continue the expected reforms and strengthen the very good economic results," the post further stated.
Macron also highlighted France’s commitment to the European integration of the Western Balkan countries.
He added that they also discussed the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
"I reminded him of our unwavering support for the unity of that country, as well as our condemnation of any actions aimed at challenging that unity," he added.
He stressed that it is everyone’s responsibility to engage in respecting the constitutional order in order for Bosnia and Herzegovina to get back on its European path.
Macron pointed out that they also discussed strengthening political, economic, and defense cooperation, following up on his visit to Belgrade in August of last year.
He also mentioned that he confirmed to President Vucic France’s participation in the international exhibition Expo 2027.
