Maliqi: A clear lack of recognition of Kosovo from Islamic countries

Political analyst Shkëlzen Maliqi stated that over the past five years, Kosovo has received a very small number of new recognitions and that President Vjosa Osmani sought to address this situation during her meeting in New York with the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, where she emphasized the need for support in the process of recognition of Kosovo by the member states of this organization that have not yet done so.

Maliqi noted that Kosovo is lacking recognition from Islamic countries.

“Turkey was the sponsor of some recognitions from that part of the world, but there is an evident lack of them. The president probably tried once again to speak with some countries to overcome this. Recognitions have always come from the United States, the United Kingdom… But this is a process that will likely become irrelevant if an agreement is reached through dialogue and if the Ohrid and Brussels agreements begin to be implemented. It will no longer matter how many countries individually recognize Kosovo once it joins all international organizations, including the United Nations,” Maliqi said.
