Maliqi: If the opposition forms a government, it will likely send the draft statute of the CSM to the Constitutional Court

Political analyst Shkelzen Maliqi believes that if, after the elections, a government is formed by parties that are currently in opposition, such a government would likely send the European draft statute of the Community of Serb Municipalities to the Constitutional Court for review.

According to unofficial information, the draft document that is expected to be adopted at today’s meeting of the EU General Affairs Council includes, in the section concerning Kosovo, a request to immediately begin the establishment of the CSM.

Maliqi says that the opposition has not spoken much about the Community, as it was Albin Kurti’s main populist trump card, but that opposition parties are essentially in favor of improving relations with the West, both with Brussels and Washington.

“Kurti negotiated the Ohrid Agreement with Vucic, and if nothing else, they will at least send the statute of the Community of Serb Municipalities to the Constitutional Court. That was also a condition for entering the Council of Europe. I think that any government that is not Kurti’s will be far more cooperative,” Maliqi told Kosovo Online.

The sanctions imposed on Kosovo by the EU, he added, were introduced because of misguided or premature policies pursued by Kurti’s government in the north, that is, because Kurti did not listen to either the United States or Europe.
