Political analyst Shkëlzen Maliqi, speaking about the institutional crisis, said that he “does not know if Kurti has anything left to think about, since the consequences of the delays in forming the institutions so far have not produced what he intended.” He assessed that Kurti has entered a phase of “political schizophrenia where he is losing touch with reality,” reports Gazeta Blic.

“I don’t know if Albin Kurti still has the ability to think about how to get out of the deadlock, because the consequences of the delays so far have not produced what he intended with the proposal of Albulena Haxhiu, and now also Donika Gervalla Schwarz. If he thought he would compromise the PDK and LDK, as the only partners for a stable government, he wasted his chances to do so,” Maliqi believes.

He considers that Kurti will have to repeat the game with other candidates who are unacceptable to the majority of Assembly members.

“All he has to do is repeat the game with other candidates who are unacceptable to the majority of Assembly members, so that due to the lack of votes for a government, he can burn his MPs, rather than himself being given the mandate to form a government. In this way, he can justify it—PDK and LDK are to blame for why the Assembly was not constituted and for preventing him from forming a government. He does not want to appear unsuccessful and defeated by his rivals, but seeks another way to delay and call new elections,” Maliqi said.

He stated that Kurti has entered a phase of “political schizophrenia where he is losing touch with reality.”

“This calculation has entered a phase of political schizophrenia where Albin Kurti is losing touch with reality, trying to hold on to the prime minister’s post to the end, out of fear that if he leaves it now, he will not be able to regain it, since support for Self-Determination is ‘obviously’ declining. If by delaying he intended to go to double elections, general and local, that is now not even theoretically possible, and an almost certain debacle in the local elections—let us remember the colossal defeat in 2021—would irreparably damage his ambition,” he said.

But, according to Maliqi, another scenario from Albin Kurti may also exist.

He said that Kurti might be counting on a possible crisis in the north in order to survive, but according to him, that is a very dangerous option.

“He may be counting on some connected crisis scenario in Serbia (where Vucic’s regime falls) and in northern Kosovo, to open an alternative path to survival, which is a very dangerous, anti-democratic, and ‘revolutionary’ option. I hope he does not attempt this,” Maliqi stated.
