Mijacic: Kurti is exerting systematic pressure on the Serbs with the aim of expelling them from Kosovo

Coordinator of the Working Group of the National Convention of the EU for cooperation between Belgrade and Pristina, Dragisa Mijacic, stated today that the Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti was exerting systematic pressure on the Serbs with the aim of forcing the Serbian community to leave, leading to it no longer representing any political factor in Kosovo, RTV reported.

Mijacic told Tanjug that recent events, from the demolition of Serbian tents and billboards to the installation of Kosovo signs and the abolishment of the dinar, represented precisely the "Croatian model", which Kurti announced as his platform for dialogue.

"Kurti's goal is to consolidate his independence, to consolidate sovereignty in the territory of Kosovo, and he has been exerting pressure all this time to achieve that goal. Also, on the other hand, the dialogue is not in his interest, and he announced that when he came to power, simply stating that the dialogue was not among the priorities he wanted to discuss. He is acting on all possible fronts in this way," Mijacic said.

He added that Kurti's key goal was to prevent the use of the Community of Serb-majority Municipalities on the territory of Kosovo before its formation.

Mijacic also commented on the attitude of international centers of power towards such behavior and emphasized that even their punitive measures no longer yielded results.

"Well, you see, so much is happening that even the international community can no longer follow each of these individual incidents to make it clear that such behavior is unacceptable. The international community - the European Union and America - have introduced a kind of punitive measures for such behavior, but even those punitive measures have not produced any significant results in the sense that they have not forced Kurti to reconsider implementing unilateral acts," he said.

Mijacic explains that Kurti does everything under the pretext that it is all in accordance with the constitution and laws of Kosovo, but in reality, they are based on multi-ethnic governance.

"In this way, he obstructs multi-ethnic institutions, i.e., institutions of other ethnic communities in Kosovo, and changes the essence of Kosovo because Kosovo is not an Albanian state. Kosovo is a civic state, created on the principle of multi-ethnicity. With his behavior, he will lead to it being only an Albanian state, a centralized country, where decisions are made from one center, not by the communities, as envisaged by the Kosovo constitution and law," he stated.

Mijacic added that Kurti's narrative, which, as he said, had two sides, the role of the victim and an equal partner in terms of statehood, was accepted in some foreign media but not in the process of dialogue on the international stage. Regarding the plan to introduce the euro as the exclusive currency in Kosovo, Mijacic says that Kurti is playing the card of international community inertia.

"He is waiting to see how this decision will be implemented, and whether it will cause social, political, and security unrest. If a few days pass without any unrest, he will conclude that there are no problems, just as there were no problems when he brought special police forces into municipal buildings, and the international community imposed punitive measures for them to withdraw, and they still sit there today," he said.

Mijacic emphasized that, on the other hand, abolishing the dinar as a means of payment in Kosovo would be the strongest card that Kurti could use against the Serbs and members of other ethnic communities tied to Serbian institutions and currency.
