Milenkovic: Self-Determination aware the opposition could form new government, that’s why they are delaying Assembly formation
Marko Milenkovic, associate of the NGO New Social Initiative, stated that the Self-Determination Movement is aware that the opposition could form a new government and is therefore deliberately delaying the process of constituting the Assembly.
“Clearly, there is a possibility for the opposition to form a government. I think that is where Self-Determination’s fear lies, and that is why they are dragging out the process of forming the Assembly, because the next step would be the process of forming a government. That would mean that if the deadlines for forming a government are not respected, the opposition would get that opportunity,” Milenkovic told Kosovo Online.
For that to happen, he specified, “more unified positions of the opposition on certain issues” would be necessary.
“Above all, on the key topics related to overcoming the current situation. There is also the question of whether such a government would in some sense be transitional, though I think it would be difficult to reach consensus on key social or political issues,” Milenkovic said.
He added that such a coalition would also need the support of other communities in Kosovo, including the Serbian community.
“The positioning of those leading opposition parties will dictate the manner and level of involvement of other actors, including communities beyond the Albanian one,” this analyst explained.
He is convinced that if Self-Determination continues to block institutions, a solution will have to be found either through the Constitutional Court or in some other way.
“Certainly, if the policy of unilateral moves continues, along with further isolation by the international community, I think the need for such an opposition or transitional government will grow, and at some point, we will have political actors who will reach consensus, form a government, and simply overcome the crisis that is unfolding in Kosovo,” Milenkovic stressed.
