Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces General Milan Mojsilovic met today in Belgrade with KFOR Commander Major General Roberto Vergori, who assumed the post two days ago, to discuss the current security situation in Kosovo, the problems and challenges facing the Serbian community, as well as the activities of the Serbian Armed Forces and KFOR aimed at preserving peace and security.

The talks highlighted the importance of open and direct communication between the Serbian Armed Forces and KFOR at all levels in order to monitor the situation on the ground and prevent crises from emerging and escalating.

“The Chief of the General Staff pointed out that the security situation in Kosovo and Metohija is sensitive, that Serbs in the Province do not feel safe and that their fundamental rights and freedoms are under threat. Stressing that the Serbian Armed Forces view KFOR as the only legitimate armed formation in Kosovo and Metohija, he asked the Italian General to ensure that the international security force consistently and impartially implements its mandate in accordance with United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244 and other signed agreements, and ensures a safe and secure environment and freedom of movement, above all for Serbs in our southern province,” the Ministry of Defense said in a statement.

Mojsilovic congratulated General Vergori on his appointment to the new post and expressed the expectation that, during his mandate, cooperation between the Serbian Armed Forces and KFOR would remain professional and contribute to preserving peace and stability in the region.
