Former Kosovo Prime Minister Isa Mustafa stated that the recent visits of President Vjosa Osmani and acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti to the United States play no role in restoring the strategic dialogue with the U.S., adding that Osmani has shown she is ready to sacrifice Kosovo’s strategic interests in the hope that Kurti will grant her another mandate, Gazeta Blic reports.

“The visit of Osmani and Kurti to the U.S. was not highlighted as a condition for restoring the strategic dialogue. Therefore, it plays no role. Meetings held during the autumn session of the UN General Assembly do not offer conditions or opportunities for substantive issues,” Mustafa said.

Speaking about the nature of the meetings held during these visits, he stressed that they were more symbolic and without real impact.

“At the reception organized for everyone, the President had a protocol photo taken with President Trump, which lasted as long as the photo and handshake, and she also took a photo with the Secretary of State,” Mustafa recalled.

As for Kurti’s activities, Mustafa said that the acting prime minister did not meet with anyone from the U.S. government and made scandalous statements.

“The U.S. government’s remarks on Kurti were and remain very clear,” Mustafa stressed.

He assessed that although Kurti publicly expresses his disagreement with the U.S. positions, President Osmani follows the same line, but in a more concealed manner.

“In the meantime, the difference between Osmani and Kurti is that Kurti openly expresses his will not to cooperate with the U.S., while Osmani is on the same line but tries to camouflage it, not because she hates America, but because she sacrifices the country’s strategic interests, hoping that Albin and Self-Determination will grant her another mandate,” Mustafa told Gazeta Blic.
