The decision of the United States of America to suspend the strategic dialogue with Kosovo has seriously undermined Kosovo’s position, assessed former Kosovo diplomat Edita Tahiri, Kosova Press reports.

Tahiri stresses that the swift formation of a government is essential to overcoming this political situation.
She opposes the idea of early parliamentary elections, emphasizing that Kosovo does not need a new political crisis, but rather institutional stability.

Tahiri underlines that the suspension of the U.S. strategic dialogue is a major strategic blow for Kosovo, blaming the government led by Albin Kurti for the deterioration of relations with the U.S. and for the consequences resulting from this government.

“The suspension of the strategic dialogue by America is a major strategic blow for Kosovo, and this happened due to the fault of the outgoing government and Kurti himself, who is a deputy and is unlawfully serving as prime minister. His actions were therefore linked with the damage caused by his attacks on the Constitutional Court and his failure to implement decisions through which the Constitutional Court had given several deadlines for the constitution of the Assembly,” said Tahiri.

She claims that Kurti attempted to downplay the damage caused to Kosovo by the suspension of the strategic dialogue.

“Everyone should be called upon, including Kurti and opposition leaders, to engage in an internal political dialogue in order to overcome this situation and stop the negative effects of this suspension,” said Tahiri.

Tahiri emphasizes that the U.S. decision to suspend the strategic dialogue has harmed Kosovo’s image, especially with regard to international recognition.

“At this stage, Kosovo is moving forward alone, because Kosovo advances with American support, but now we have been left alone. The worst part is that all the countries that were considering recognition have now stopped recognizing Kosovo,” said Tahiri, adding that the consequences are serious.

Tahiri called for the swift and full constitution of the Kosovo Assembly and the formation of a new government.

“I call for a formula to be found as soon as possible, for a government to be formed, and for the Constitution to be legally made independent, as the President has declared that the Parliament has been constituted, but no, it has not been constituted, as the Constitutional Court itself has stated. We are in a difficult situation, we must find our own way out and must not face any punishment in the coming days,” Tahiri emphasized.
