Nazarko: Kosovo has lost the support of the US; Serbia is important for Washington

Analyst Mentor Nazarko estimated that Kosovo no longer had the support of the United States of America, as it used to, but that Serbia had gained that attention, Ekonomia online reported.

In an interview for "Newsline", Nazarko commented on the concern of the Kosovo opposition because the Kosovo leaders had not met with the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken at the Munich Security Conference.

"It's no secret that due to increased international pressure, Kosovo has slightly lost the support of the US, and in a sense, it seems that Serbia has gained it," Nazarko said.

This, he says, is also evident from the fact that American President Joe Biden did not use the term "mutual recognition at the heart of the agreement" for the first time, on two occasions, that is, on the occasion of the celebration of Serbia's Statehood Day and Kosovo's Independence Day.

"He used this term a year ago, even Trump before him. The argument that Biden did not use it to save the negotiations is not valid, because Trump was also on the threshold of negotiations and decided to write to Vucic that mutual recognition was needed in the focus of the agreement. Biden didn't do that," Nazarko said.

The fact that the letter talked about the normalization process, but without the term "mutual recognition", shows him that the US, spurred on by the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, is investing large amounts of money to draw Serbia into the Western zone of influence, and for Belgrade to impose sanctions on Russia.

"It happened because of the greater importance of Serbia within the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, as well as because of Serbian lobbying in the US," Nazarko said.
