Ivan Nikolic from the NGO "Communication for Society Development" stated to Kosovo Online that he saw the regulation of the Central Bank of Kosovo, which prevented the use of the dinar and took effect today, as a probing of the pulse and measuring the reaction of members of the Serbian community. As he adds, people who do not know how Serbs in Kosovo live are dealing with their lives, and this decision will seriously endanger the existence of members of the Serbian community.

"What will actually happen, unfortunately, depends on the agreement of some much more important people there, and I am glad that the international community, in this case – representatives of the State Department and the Quint countries, are reacting and want to calm things down a bit by sending a message to Pristina not to rush with this move because the fact is that it will seriously jeopardize the existence of members of the Serbian community," Nikolic says.

He points out that a large number of people, or, as he says, the absolute majority, receive dinar salaries and live off of them.

"What unfortunately worries and troubles me is the reaction of the members of the community from which I come, the Serbian community, and that is an absolute reconciliation with the situation on the ground. This brings us to the famous story of the frog that is slowly boiled and, at some point, doesn’t even realize that it’s cooked. So, the members of the Serbian community, perhaps by inertia, accept that they cannot make any significant decisions regarding their lives and their daily lives, but rather leave it to some people out there who actually don't know how and what these people here live on," Nikolic says.
