EU Spokesperson Peter Stano stated that the EU was deeply concerned about the abolishment of the dinar in Kosovo and the impact it would have on communities with a majority Serbian population.

"This raises concern regarding the impact the regulation will have on Serb-majority communities in Kosovo, especially on schools and hospitals for which there is no alternative viable process," Stano said at a regular briefing in Brussels, as reported by N1.

As he assessed, the regulation to abolish the dinar will have a direct impact on the daily lives of the vast majority of the Serbian population, who receive payments or financial assistance in Serbian currency.

"Given the potential consequences of this regulation on the normalization process of relations between Kosovo and Serbia, we expect that all aspects related to the Serbian community in Kosovo will be addressed within the framework of the EU-facilitated dialogue. We are calling for a sufficiently long transitional period that allows for the negotiated solution to be found on this specific problem," Stano emphasized.

Stano confirmed during the press conference that Lajcak would visit Pristina tomorrow, and as he noted, the meetings the European representative would have during these two days are part of the continuous contact and interaction with partners in order to help them progress in the dialogue.
