North Mitrovica received a positive response from the Ministry for membership in the Association of Kosovo Municipalities

The municipality of North Mitrovica received a positive response from the Ministry of Administration and Local Self-Government to the request for membership in the Association of Kosovo Municipalities, reports Koha.

As they state, the documentation was forwarded to the Association today, and it is expected that the request will be examined in the following days.

The municipal councilors of North Mitrovica said that this decision was not directed against anyone.

The Ministry of Administration and Local Self-Government, after more than two weeks, approved the request of the municipality of North Mitrovica for membership in the Association of Kosovo Municipalities.

North Mitrovica officials confirmed that the Ministry's response along with supporting documentation was forwarded to the Association today, which must now decide whether to accept the 35th member.

The head of the office of the mayor of North Mitrovica, Visar Silaj, said that as far as they were concerned, they had taken all the steps.

"Now we are just waiting for the audit by the Association," Silaj said.

The executive director of the Association of Kosovo Municipalities, Sazan Ibrahimi, says that he will take the necessary actions to consider the request.

"Now, after the municipality of North Mitrovica accepted the request, which was considered by the Ministry, it is the authorities of the Association who will take the necessary actions to consider the request of the respective municipality. The Association of Kosovo Municipalities will adhere to its statutory provisions in order to take responsible actions regarding the examination of the request of the municipality of North Mitrovica for membership in the Association," said Ibrahimi.

The North Mitrovica Municipal Assembly decided on June 30 to initiate procedures for membership in the Association of Municipalities of Kosovo.
