Novakovic: The dialogue is focused on less problematic issues, but even there, it is questionable whether progress is possible

Senior associate of the Center for International and Security Affairs, Igor Novakovic, told Kosovo Online that in the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, within which a round was held yesterday mediated by the new EU Representative, Peter Sorensen, the focus was clearly placed on issues that are not as politically sensitive. However, he noted that it remains questionable whether progress can be made even on those topics, despite Sorensen’s clear ambition to achieve results.
According to him, the topics in question are the issue of missing persons and integrated crossings management.
“Most likely, the European Union, specifically Mr. Sorensen, wants to make progress on those issues. Since it has been announced that the next meeting will take place in Geneva, it is very possible that the issue currently in focus is that of missing persons. But given how slow progress has been on this issue in previous years, I sincerely doubt any major breakthroughs will be achieved, unless both sides want to make a good impression on the EU Special Representative for Dialogue, Mr. Sorensen, rather than merely being physically present in the office without producing any real results,” Novakovic said.
