The Director of Serbia’s Government Commission on Missing Persons, Veljko Odalovic, stated today that the conditions under which the local elections in Kosovo and Metohija were held were such that everything was against the Serbs and the Serb List, but that the people nevertheless managed to demonstrate unity and solidarity, RTV reported.

“When Albin Kurti came to power, the first thing he did was enter the office of the election administration, take control of the voter register, and seize the election bodies. The polling boards are his; he managed the entire system. In addition, he instrumentalized the election commission to do everything possible to prevent the Serb List from being certified, using explanations known only to him, and to block its participation in the elections. In a certain way, this actually helped unify the Serb List and the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija,” Odalovic told Tanjug.

He emphasized that it was significant that the Serb List won nine mayoral posts out of ten municipalities in the first round, proving that there were no divisions within the Serb community, especially as those ten municipalities form the backbone of the planned Community of Serb Municipalities.

“It is important that there were no cracks in that Serbian core, especially not in the ten municipalities with a Serb majority, which are the foundation for forming the CSM, and that the decision that needs to be made is not called into question. Take, for example, Gracanica, Kurti needed someone like Rasic to win in at least one municipality, simply to shake the Serbian bloc and undermine the very idea of the CSM,” Odalovic said.

He stressed that Kurti’s goal is to change the demographic and electoral structure in two directions, by bringing in Albanians and expelling Serbs.

“That is their winning combination if that process continues. That is why the establishment of the Community of Serb Municipalities is crucial, so that its mechanisms, levers, and functions can stop it,” he said.

According to Odalovic, Kurti will continue the pressure and terror against Serbs, since a second round of elections still awaits, and his entire campaign is aimed at establishing what Odalovic called “a form of full, conditional statehood,” RTV reported.
