Office for Kosovo and Metohija: Petkovic talks with Ferguson about the political situation and issues of the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija

The Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Petar Petkovic, met today with the Ambassador of Great Britain to the Republic of Serbia, Edward Ferguson. During the meeting, Petkovic briefed Ferguson on the political situation in Kosovo and the problems the Serbs face daily due to political disenfranchisement, constant attacks, and attempts to subjugate them to Pristina through violent and undemocratic means, the Office for Kosovo and Metohija's statement said.

Petkovic expressed concern about Pristina's decision to suspend financial transactions with central Serbia and abolish the dinar as a means of payment from February 1. He emphasized that this decision represented a specific form of pressure that would undoubtedly lead to the emigration of the Serbian population from Kosovo.

"This decision also leads to the nullification of all previously reached agreements, including the agreement on the formation of the Community of Serb-majority Municipalities, which is structurally based on institutions that operate within the dinar payment system, the only legal currency in Kosovo and Metohija," Petkovic emphasized.

He also pointed out that this was a dangerous unilateral move by Albin Kurti, which was not only a political problem but primarily a social and humanitarian one, "with catastrophic consequences".

The Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija informed his interlocutor that the Serbs had submitted signed petitions for the removal of illegitimate mayors and councilors in northern Kosovo and Metohija and expected the issue to be resolved as soon as possible.

"Fake mayors and councilors were elected with 3.5 percent of the vote. Sufficient signatures for their removal have been collected so far, more than 20 percent of the total number of registered voters," Petkovic said.

According to Petkovic, the Serbs and the Albanians cannot resolve their disagreements over Kosovo and Metohija in any other way than through dialogue, which Belgrade will continue to pursue actively. However, given the fact that Albin Kurti is creating crises, incidents, and violence against the Serbs day by day, the normalization process is in great jeopardy.
