The Office for Kosovo and Metohija stated today that it demands the international community to get involved and monitor the case of Srecko Sofronijevic, who was arrested today at the Brnjak administrative crossing, because "Prishtina does not guarantee or respect any rights for Serbs in Kosovo."

As stated in the Office's announcement, Serb from Zvecan, Srecko Sofronijevic, was arrested today at the Brnjak administrative crossing and taken south of the Ibar River with handcuffs on his hands, without any explanation.

"Sofronijevic was at the time of arrest with his wife, who is a witness to this latest repression by the Kosovo police. The Office for Kosovo and Metohija immediately provided a lawyer for the arrested Serb, who will verify all elements of this case. He is a Serb who was severely wounded on October 13, 2021, by members of Kurti's Rosu police, who then invaded the north of Kosovo and Metohija to provoke incidents," the Office for Kosovo and Metohija emphasized.

They point out that Sofronijevic has been recovering for months from the consequences of the shooting, and that he "received the bullet while Rosu members threw tear gas into his neighborhood, and he tried to protect a child."

"Although he continued to live peacefully in his home with his family, refusing to leave the north of Kosovo and Metohija, today's detention is a continuation of intimidation and provocations he is subjected to in order to leave his home, and to send a message to the Serbian people in these areas that they will never have peace as long as Kurti is in power," the statement said.
