Former Slovenian President Borut Pahor has confirmed that he has not submitted his candidacy for the position of the new EU envoy for the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, Slovenian media reported today.
Pahor had previously expressed his willingness to take on the position, but cited several factors as reasons for his decision not to run, including disagreement with the official EU policy on enlargement, the STA agency reports.
"My personal views on EU enlargement differ from the official EU policy," Pahor said, RTV reports.
Borut Pahor was the president of Slovenia from 2012 to 2022 and is a politician who advocates the admission of new EU members as a package.
Pahor believes that promoting the idea that Montenegro and Albania should join the EU as soon as possible would be "more of an obstacle than an incentive."
