Canaj: It is possible for the agreements from the dialogue to be implemented unilaterally
Professor of Political History in Pristina, Blerim Canaj, commenting on the recent statement by Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama that Kosovo should freeze dialogue with Belgrade, says the essence of Rama's message was that agreements should be implemented unilaterally, with Kosovo fulfilling what it has taken on as its responsibility, since nothing is happening in the dialogue.
"What we see is that if Vucic or Kurti need it, they go to the dialogue, but nothing comes out of it. Another thing is that Kosovo and Serbia do not have an agreement between themselves; rather, Kosovo has an agreement with the European Union, and so does Serbia. If the EU takes on its responsibility, then it is possible for the agreements to be implemented unilaterally. If one side has taken on a responsibility, then it must complete it. Kosovo must complete its part, and so must Serbia. But if one side is waiting for the other to do something while doing nothing itself, then where does that leave those of us living in Kosovo?" Canaj asks.
He emphasizes that the dialogue has no alternative, as it is, he says, a demand of the international community.
