Former Kosovo ambassador Lulzim Peci called the arrest of Serbian politician Aleksandar Arsenijevic for whistling during Prime Minister Albin Kurti's visit to North Mitrovica a shameful act by the Kosovo police.

Peci, who is the director of the Kosovo Institute for Policy Research and Development (KIPRED), stated that "the police not only deprived a citizen of his freedom for protesting non-violently, but also undermined the narrative of the rule of law, which the Government of Kosovo so loudly promotes."

"Then come and convince someone that our institutions respect human rights and the rights of non-majority communities. With this irrational and unconstitutional approach, you sought an Association, but you haven't found it!" Peci wrote in a Facebook post.

He further said that "it is not honorable for civil society and opposition parties to remain silent when human rights are violated, especially when it happens to members of non-majority communities."

"Silence is nothing more or less than acceptance of such acts and complicity in the destruction of liberal democracy in our country!" Peci wrote.
