Petkovic: Barbano’s reaction is noteworthy – where are the Quint and EU representatives to condemn the attack on the Serbian child?
The Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Petar Petkovic, stated that the direct reaction of EULEX Chief Giovanni Pietro Barbano to today’s incident in North Mitrovica is noteworthy, but questioned the silence of other international representatives who, as he emphasized, remain quiet about the brutal assault by Kosovo Police on a Serbian youth.
“The clear, timely, and direct reaction by the Head of the EULEX mission deserves attention. But where are the other representatives of the international community (the Quint and the EU) in Pristina, who are silent about the brutal attack by Kosovo Police on a Serbian child celebrating their graduation?” Petkovic wrote on the social network “X”.
He added that these are the very same individuals who are quick to condemn Serbs but are nowhere to be found when it comes to condemning the violence of Kurti and his police.
EULEX Chief Giovanni Pietro Barbano earlier stated that he was shocked by the excessive use of force demonstrated today by a member of the Kosovo Police against a Serbian boy in North Mitrovica and that he had expressed his concern to the police.
According to videos circulating on social media, today’s incident occurred in the pedestrian zone in North Mitrovica, near the main bridge over the Ibar River. The footage shows a Kosovo Police officer attacking a Serbian high school student and repeatedly grabbing him by the neck.
High school seniors were celebrating the end of the school year today, and as they walked through the promenade, the videos show Albanians sitting in nearby cafes jeering and making the double-headed eagle hand gesture.
