The Vice President of the Serb List, Ivan Zaporozac, strongly condemned what he described as a physical assault by the Kosovo Police on a Serbian high school graduate in North Mitrovica, calling it a deliberate act of intimidation against Serbian youth.

According to him, the young man was subjected to physical abuse, including being grabbed by the neck, shoved, and verbally harassed—solely because of his ethnic background.

“Instead of remembering the end of his schooling with fond memories, this young man will remember it for the violence he experienced at the hands of the police, simply because he is Serbian—and that, in his own neighborhood,” Zaporozac said.

He stated that the incident deeply disturbed the parents and citizens who were present at the scene.

Zaporozac claims that such actions represent a targeted show of force and an attempt to intimidate an entire generation of young Serbs who should be the bearers of the future in this region.

He expressed particular concern over the fact that the incident occurred just a few hours after the visit of the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, to northern Kosovo.

“Is this act of violence the message someone in Pristina wants to send to the European Union?” Zaporozac asked.

He called for an urgent investigation and urged the international community—especially EU representatives—to react and prevent similar incidents in the future.

“The Serb List will continue to strongly advocate for the protection of our citizens, especially children and youth, from such incidents, and calls on all relevant international actors, including EU representatives, to take concrete steps within their mission on the ground to prevent a recurrence of such cases,” Zaporozac concluded.

According to videos circulating on social media, today’s incident occurred in the pedestrian zone in North Mitrovica, near the main bridge over the Ibar River. The footage shows a member of the Kosovo Police lunging at the Serbian high school student and repeatedly grabbing him by the neck.

High school graduates were celebrating the end of the school year today, and while walking through the pedestrian area, video footage shows that Albanians sitting in nearby cafés were making taunting gestures and flashing the double-headed eagle hand sign at them.
