Petkovic: Opening of the bridge is trampling on dialogue agreements and a slap in the face to the EU

The unlawful opening of Kurti’s bridge is a new escalatory move that directly undermines peace in northern Kosovo, Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija Petar Petkovic said.

Petkovic emphasized that the opening of the bridge is trampling on dialogue agreements and a slap in the face to the EU.

“That is why Kurti chose to open the bridge today, while Peter Sorensen is in Belgrade. A brutal demolition of dialogue,” Petkovic wrote on the social network X.

The bridge for vehicle traffic between South and North Mitrovica was opened this morning, and the first person to cross it by car was Deputy Minister of Infrastructure in a caretaker capacity Hysen Durmishi, while Minister of Internal Affairs in a caretaker capacity Xhelal Svecla was also present.

Albin Kurti also commented on the opening of the bridge.

“It took less than two months to build the bridge over the Ibar River, the 36th one in Kosovo. The bridge for vehicle traffic is open for use as of 9 a.m. today. Congratulations to the residents and citizens of South and North Mitrovica! Praise to the company and workers for their exemplary engagement. Work on the second bridge continues,” Kurti wrote on Facebook.
