Popovic: The relocation of the monument to Serbian soldiers is a disregard for Serbian history and tradition

Relocating the monument dedicated to fallen Serbian soldiers in World War I, on the military section of the Orthodox cemetery in Pristina, a member of the presidency of the Serb List, Srdjan Popovic, sees as another form of disrespect for Serbian history and tradition.

The monument to Serbian soldiers who perished in the Balkan Wars and World War I is no longer in its previous location in the central part of the Orthodox military cemetery in Pristina. This was noticed after the Ambassadors of Germany and France in Kosovo published a photo of their joint marking of Armistice Day at the mentioned cemetery.

Popovic emphasizes that the fundamental precondition, for any interethnic coexistence between the Serbs and the Albanians, is the respect for the history, customs, and traditions of the other nation.

"With this, they have shown that they do not respect our history, and this is further supported by a large number of destroyed memorial plaques on Serbian cemeteries, which no one from the Serbian community can understand", he said.

Popovic warns that history cannot be rewritten and must be respected.

"What surprised everyone is that the Serbian and French armies entered Pristina, they entered as liberators, and no one can overlook this fact, and no one can rewrite history because it is simply recorded. I hope the plaque will be returned to its place, and we will not give up on the fact that history must be respected, and everything must be as it was before", Popovic said.

He also states that the international community must react to such incidents.

"All of this cannot go unnoticed by the international community. I believe that the international community needs to influence many things, and it must not allow trampling over the dead to achieve certain political and national goals", Popovic concluded.
