Rajic: In three years, Kurti further deteriorated the difficult position of Serbs and showed that he did not want an agreement

Over the past three years, since Self-Determination's victory in the parliamentary elections in Kosovo, Albin Kurti has seriously undermined the already difficult position of Serbs in Kosovo, Predrag Rajic from the Center for Social Stability believes and says that as representative of Pristina in dialogue with Belgrade, Kurti has shown that he does not want reconciliation between Serbs and Albanians, issuing ultimatums and maximalist demands.

The Self-Determination Movement, led by Kurti, won the snap elections on February 14, 2021, with 50.28% of the votes.

"These three years have been marked by Kurti's brutality and an impulse bordering on some pathological urge to expel all Serbs from Kosovo and Metohija, to incite war between Serbs and Albanians in Kosovo, consequently a war between Serbs and Albanians in the Balkans, and ultimately a war between Serbs and NATO. Over these three years, he has seriously undermined the already difficult position of Serbs in Kosovo and shows no signs of stopping. He has shown a certain resistance to criticism from the West for his actions, and it is absolutely clear that we are dealing with a fanatic who strives to fulfill what he has set for himself as a messianic role because he wants to unify what he considers Albanian lands, to enter history as someone who created a 'Greater Albania,' and to be the first leader of all Albanians with the capital of this Greater Albania being Pristina and not Tirana," Rajic states for Kosovo Online.

Despite everything, Rajic says that Serbs have persisted in Kosovo, and the key to their survival has been unity with official Belgrade. If Kurti, as he adds, succeeds in driving a wedge between Kosovo Serbs and official Belgrade, which he has been trying to do especially in the last six months, an even more difficult situation awaits them than today.

Commenting on Kurti's role as a negotiator in dialogue with Belgrade, our interlocutor says that dialogue is not his concern.

"He does not want to negotiate. He issues ultimatums, comes to negotiations with maximalist demands, and nothing below that interests him. He has shown that he does not want Serbs and Albanians to reconcile and make any kind of agreement between them; on the contrary, he wants to worsen those already strained and difficult relations even further and make life for Serbs in Kosovo even harder and more unbearable," Rajic says.
