Scholz: Conduct elections in the north of Kosovo and implement the agreement on the CSM as soon as possible

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz pointed out tonight that the international community was engaged in the de-escalation of the situation in the north of Kosovo and requested the holding of elections in four Serbian municipalities as soon as possible, as well as the implementation of the agreement on the CSM.

After a meeting with Macedonian Prime Minister Dimitar Kovacevski, and when asked whether sanctions are the right way to force the parties to de-escalate the situation, Scholz reminded that an agreement was proposed, which was negotiated by Kosovo and Serbia, and which represents an agreement to regulate relations.

"That agreement must now be filled with life. This implies a series of agreements that must be implemented now. Everyone must contribute to the de-escalation, so that the elections in the north can be held quickly, and that there will be a high turnout, so that they do not have only a formally elected, but legitimate mayors. It is also necessary to implement the agreement on CSM," he said.

He emphasized that everyone is involved in de-escalation, both the EU and the envoys, as well as Germany, France, Italy and the USA.

"I hope that together we will succeed in having everyone on the field contribute to enabling good neighborly relations," Scholz underlined.
