Selmanaj: 600,000 citizens left Kosovo in 10 years; we will have fewer people than Montenegro

The head of the parliamentary group of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Besnik Tahiri, speaking about the two years of Kurti's government, said that "the citizens of Kosovo, losing hope, started moving out," Koha reports.

"By pushing unconstitutional laws, the state's foundation has been shaken. Kosovo has been poorer since February 14, 2021. The citizens of Kosovo, losing hope, started to leave. Since it is unable to ensure development, there has been no foreign investment for two years, Kurti's government has turned into an institution that only talks about the past 20 years," Tahiri said in the Assembly.

Democratic League of Kosovo MP Driton Selmanaj said that the causes of the emigration of citizens from Kosovo had to be urgently analyzed.

At the plenary Assembly session, he said that nearly 600,000 citizens left Kosovo.

"In 2022 alone, 105,000 applied for a visa at the German Embassy. In the Swiss Embassy, over 38,000. I received information from the Ministry of Internal Affairs that 10,000 renounced their citizenship in two years. Within ten years, 30 percent of the population of Kosovo left. Almost 600,000 fled Kosovo. If this trend continues for the next ten years, we will remain less populated than Montenegro. I think that an analysis of the migration causes should be done urgently", Selmanaj said.
