Serb List: The indictment against Simic aims to silence legitimate Serb representatives

The Serb List stated this evening that the indictment against Slavko Simic, a member of its Presidency, for an “alleged attack on journalists” in 2023 is fabricated and unfounded, calling it yet another politically motivated action targeting the Serbian people in Kosovo.
In the statement, it is emphasized that Slavko Simic is a respected political representative, a family man, and a father of four, and one of nine MPs from the Serb List who “firmly rejects all blackmail and pressure from Albin Kurti’s regime.”
“During the 2023 incident, as confirmed by testimonies, footage, and statements from Albanian journalists, Simic acted calmly and responsibly, attempting to protect all those present, including media crews,” the Serb List underlined.
They pointed out that, unlike Simic, it was Elbert Krasniqi, a minister in the Pristina government, who escalated the situation that day through his actions — a man “known for his role in provoking tensions in the north of Kosovo and Metohija.”
“It is clear that the aim of such actions is to silence legitimate Serbian representatives, criminalize the Serb political struggle, and divert attention from the real sources of instability in the region,” the Serb List stated with conviction.
They added that by initiating proceedings against Simic, Albin Kurti’s administration demonstrates its abuse of institutions for political persecution and retaliation against Serbs who refuse to accept impositions and injustice, as well as against the Serb List, which opposes Kurti’s intent to impose compliant representatives on the Serbian community.
They called on the international community to respond:
“We call on international representatives, especially EU and Quint missions, to end their silence that encourages such actions and to publicly highlight the political context and abuse of law by the institutions in Pristina. The Serb List will continue to fight for the rights of its people, and Slavko Simic has the full support of the party and the Serbian community in his fight for truth and justice,” the statement concludes.
The Basic Prosecutor’s Office in Mitrovica has filed an indictment against Simic and another person for the alleged attack on journalists in Leposavic in 2023.
“The Basic Prosecutor’s Office in Mitrovica informs the public that it has filed an indictment against the individual with the initials S.S., a member of the Assembly of Kosovo, on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of ‘Participation in a crowd committing a criminal offense and hooliganism,’ under Article 404, paragraph 2 in connection with paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code of Kosovo,” the Prosecutor’s Office stated.
According to the indictment, on June 16, 2023, during a protest against the visit of former minister E.K. in Leposavic, the accused allegedly participated with premeditation in a group of more than eight people.
