Serb List: Popovic's detention is an attack on Dialogue and proof of Kurti's regime's arbitrariness

The Serb List has condemned the decision of the Kosovo court to order detention for Igor Popovic, Assistant Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, calling it politically motivated and made at the request of acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti. They stated that Popovic was detained for speaking about the suffering of the Serbian people and for calling for accountability of those who committed crimes against Serbs.

"With a baseless and politically driven decision, which we believe was made on the order of Albin Kurti, the Kosovo court today ordered 30 days of detention for Igor Popovic simply because he took it upon himself to speak about the suffering of the Serbian people and to demand accountability for those who committed crimes against our fellow citizens—individuals who remain free to this day," the statement reads.

They emphasized that Igor Popovic has once again become a target of Kurti’s regime—a man who has always stood by his people, even now, sharing with them their difficult moments, pressure, and suffering, demonstrating selfless love and loyalty toward the Serbian people in these areas.

“Because he loves his people and fights for their rights, Igor Popovic—like all of us who stand with our people—has become an enemy in the eyes of Albin Kurti. There is no nation in Europe more persecuted than the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija. The stripping of rights, unjustified arrests, blackmail, threats, raids on institutions and private property—these are all part of a systematic campaign that Kurti is waging under the false pretense of running a 'democratic' government,” the statement continues.

The detention of Igor Popovic, they added, is an attack on dialogue, on the Serbian state's determination to resolve open issues through dialogue, and at the same time, proof of “the unserious and irresponsible approach of international representatives who tolerate Kurti’s arbitrariness, autocracy, and persecution of all things Serbian.”
