Serbs at the barricades for the eighth day, the situation in the north is currently calm
Serbs in northern Kosovo have been protesting for eight days, blocking all roadways after the arrest of a former member of the Kosovo Police, Dejan Pantic.
Barricades were set up in Rudare, Srbovac, Slatina, and Lesak, on the Pristina - Raska main road. From the direction that leads from South Mitrovica to Ribarice, a barricade was set up in Varage.
Citizens spent the previous night at the barricades, despite the bad weather, rain, and occasional snow.
Yesterday, KFOR confirmed that it received the request of the Government of Serbia for the return of up to a thousand members of the Serbian forces to Kosovo, in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1244, and said that it was currently considering it.
KFOR also stated that they are carefully monitoring the situation in northern Kosovo.
"We have been increasing our presence since October, including additional troops and patrols in the north of Kosovo this week. We expect all actors to cooperate closely with KFOR and refrain from provocative demonstrations of force, to ensure the safety and security of all communities," KFOR stated.
