Simic: On behalf of ten MPs, I filed a complaint with the Constitutional Court over Rasic’s illegal appointment

The Vice President of the Serb List, Igor Simic, filed a complaint today with the Constitutional Court on behalf of ten members of parliament, over the appointment of Nenad Rasic as Deputy Speaker of the Kosovo Assembly.

Simic emphasized that this is not merely about one position in the Assembly, but about respecting the right of the Serbian people to choose their own representatives and to have proper representation in institutions. He added that constitutionally guaranteed rights must be respected and take precedence over the political will of the majority.

“Today, on behalf of ten members of the ninth Assembly, as we previously announced, I filed a complaint with the Constitutional Court over the illegal appointment and imposition of the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly representing the Serbian people, carried out by Albin Kurti’s regime,” Simic stated.

The Serb List MP explained that the complaint lists, in a detailed and precise manner, all the violations of the Constitution, the Rules of Procedure of the Assembly, and previous Constitutional Court decisions. At the same time, the Serb List is also requesting the introduction of a temporary measure to stop “unconstitutional actions that could cause irreparable harm.”

“We want to make it clear that this is not about a single seat in the Assembly, but about respecting the Serbian people’s right to choose their own representatives and to have adequate representation in institutions. Otherwise, if this majority’s violence against the minority were to be legalized, elections would become entirely meaningless, as the Albanian majority in the Assembly could always impose Serbian representatives, as Kurti has been doing since coming to power,” Simic said.

Simic insists that the constitutionally guaranteed rights of minority communities must be upheld.

“We are aware that Albin Kurti’s regime forcibly installed Nenad Rasic as an MP and as Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, but constitutionally guaranteed rights must be respected and must take precedence over the political power of the majority. We expect the Constitutional Court to act urgently, as this is a matter of broader social importance. At the same time, it should protect the rights of the Serbian people and refuse to become an instrument in the hands of Albin Kurti’s regime,” Simic concluded.
