Stano: The new EU proposal for the establishment of the CSM is balanced

European Union spokesperson Peter Stano emphasized that the EU had presented a "balanced" proposal for the establishment of the CSM during the meeting in Brussels with the leaders of Kosovo and Serbia. He said that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti had hinted at their "principled" readiness to accept the proposal, RTK reports.

Stano said that both sides had also set conditions that had been unacceptable to the other party.

"They presented a new balanced European proposal for the establishment of the Community of Serb-majority Municipalities and insisted that the parties begin implementing it. This would advance the normalization process and reduce the risk of escalation and new violence. During the meeting, the parties hinted at their 'principled' readiness to accept this European proposal, but they both had conditions that were unacceptable to the other side. We expect this readiness will lead to implementation without further delay. The conditions were not acceptable", Stano said.

He further noted that the EU's proposal had not been made public as it was standard practice not to publish documents under negotiation.

"The EU's proposal has not been publicly disclosed because diplomatic efforts are ongoing, and it is never our practice to release official documents under discussion, which is standard in international mediation. It is also our longstanding policy not to comment on alleged leaks or reports in the media claiming to have seen or published documents", Stano added.
