Stano: For now, there will be no new round of high-level dialogue

Spokesperson for the European Commission, Peter Stano, stated to the Beta News Agency that at the moment the European Union could not announce a new round of high-level dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina.

"We have nothing on which we could announce a possible high-level dialogue," he said, referring to the statement by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic that he expected an invitation to Brussels in the coming days and hoped for some solution regarding Pristina's decision to ban the use of the dinar in Kosovo.

Stano made this remark in response to a request from the Beta News Agency to explain whether Vucic's statement (following discussions in Munich with EU High Representative Josep Borrell and Special Envoy Miroslav Lajcak) implied that a new round of dialogue could soon take place.

Borrell's spokesperson also told Beta that he could not comment on what the Serbian President had had in mind when, after talks with Borrell and Lajcak, he had stated that it seemed to him "that the EU either doesn't have or doesn't want to apply mechanisms towards Pristina, which is trying in every way to ethnically cleanse Kosovo of Serbs".

The Agency asked Stano to explain how Borrell and the EU viewed Kurti's consecutive unilateral moves, especially the latest ban on the use of the Serbian currency, the dinar, as indicated by Vucic.

He responded that "there is nothing more to add beyond what Borrell stated after the meeting with Kurti and Vucic in Munich".

Borrell stated through the X network that "sustainable stability and peace in the region can only be achieved through the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia".

"The path to this leads through dialogue mediated by the EU," the European Union's High Representative concluded.
