Starovic: UN Security Council is fully competent to address what is happening in Kosovo
Nemanja Starovic, the State Secretary at the Ministry of Defense, emphasizes that the EU is authorized to mediate in negotiations, but when security and stability are drastically undermined, as is the case in Kosovo now, the UN Security Council (UNSC) is fully competent to address what is happening on the ground, as reported by RTS.
"I am confident that our initiative, which we will submit in the coming days, will yield results, that there will be enough understanding to put the issue of the security of Serbs and other non-Albanians in Kosovo and Metohija on the UNSC agenda, and I believe that this is a very important step," Starovic said.
Regarding the announcements that Serbia will request an emergency session of the UNSC on Kosovo, Starovic points out that the session will certainly be requested.
"For much smaller numbers of incidents in some other regions, such emergency UNSC sessions are regularly convened," Starovic said.
He also noted that there had been over 400 attacks on Serbs and other non-Albanians in Kosovo since Albin Kurti had taken over the helm in Pristina. He also reminded of the clashes with the police.
"They understand very well that this is one of the key issues on which the future of the international order hinges," Starovic stated.
