The head of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AFK) parliamentary group, Besnik Tahiri, said that Prime Minister Albin Kurti received a warning from the US and that if he did not think about the US demands regarding the license plates decision, Kosovo would slide into instability, Koha TV channel (KTV) reported.

Tahiri said on KTV that the discourse Kurti has been using was harmful.

"If he does not look at the US demands and does not react, the country will slide into instability, threatening all the achievements made in the previous 22 years. This has a name. Albin Kurti is not ignorant. We know very well that this discourse has no basis, and as we can see, it's extremely harmful," Tahiri said.

According to him, the decision of the Kosovo government regarding the license plates did not have the right effect, so the plan must be changed.

"The initial plan made effects on the ground that are not in the service of the good and the primary goal of Kosovo. There should be communication between the Prime Minister and the US government," Tahiri noted.

Tahiri said it was problematic that the Kosovo government did not understand the messages from the US and that the request to suspend the decision on license plates came directly from the US, which was a serious situation.

"The request for suspension of the new license plates decision is not made by Serbia, but by the US. The US will help you reach an agreement over a certain period of time. Kurti has a great achievement ahead of him – to melt the frozen conflict, to normalize relations in partnership with the US, and to strongly push Kosovo forward," Tahiri said.

As he stated, the decision on the license plates should be suspended for a period that would be sufficient to reach an agreement.

"Achieving this agreement strengthens Kosovo, it doesn’t weaken," Tahiri underlined.

Tahiri believes the problem with Serbia should be closed without violating the territorial integrity and the single-level system of governance, including the Community of Serb-majority Municipalities (CSM).
