Tonino Picula: Trump is an agent of chaos
The European Parliament’s rapporteur for Serbia, Tonino Picula, and the head of the EP delegation for relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo, Davor Ivo Štir, criticized U.S. President Donald Trump's policies, Politika reported.
"Trump is clearly dismantling the entire system that America built after World War II. We can see this through many indicators, not just regarding Greenland but also in the way he deals with Panama. This is closely tied to the dialectics of U.S. relations with China, which they see as their main competitor. Strategically, they believe they must secure those positions. A trade war is being announced, which is changing international trade—a system that was designed and led by the U.S. after 1945," said Davor Ivo Štir, who is also the shadow rapporteur of the European People's Party for Serbia.
Štir emphasized that this does not mean Europe's security is at risk since the U.S. remains in NATO, but that it is evident these relations will be redefined.
Picula stated that no one in the EU should be surprised by Trump's rhetoric anymore.
"When it comes to Greenland, this perhaps best illustrates the sheer chaos practiced by the new U.S. administration. I have been saying for a long time that Donald Trump is an agent of chaos. However, it is contradictory to legitimize such an inappropriate request by claiming that Greenland is important for U.S. security, simply because China—and especially Russia—already have a military and broader presence in that region. At the same time, Trump engages in very peculiar political, military, and financial arrangements with that same Russia, which he fears in the context of Greenland. These moves could ultimately serve to divide Ukraine and its geopolitical space. The EU must take this seriously," Picula said.
